Emi Martinez has been called up to Argentina’s national team ahead of their World Cup South American qualifiers with Paraguay (October 8), Uruguay (October 11) and Peru (October 15), marking the news with a post on social media.

The 29-year-old posted pictures on his Instagram story, showing him training with the national team and producing saves in the camp. Martinez also posted a video he’d seemingly been sent from a fan who produce artwork of him in an Aston Villa strip.

Martinez is Argentina’s first-choice goalkeeper after being promoted last season due to his outstanding form at club level. The 29-year-old joined Villa on a four-year deal from Arsenal last summer and has gone on to make 44 appearances in all competitions, conceding 52 goals and keeping 18 clean sheets.

The Argentine has made six Premier League appearances this season and shut out three sides, so he continues to impress between the sticks. And with three more years remaining on his deal, Villa don’t have to worry about losing the in-form shot-stopper just yet. He’s a favourite among supporters and is one of the best in the Premier League.
