Aston Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup third round on Monday, but they made a great account of themselves and could consider themselves unlucky to be on the losing team.
John McGinn was one of many players praised for his performance and was given an 8/10 player rating by Birmingham Live. Fans on social media also lauded his performance and thought he was excellent over the 90 minutes.
Against Man Utd, McGinn had 69 touches, completed 73.9% of his 46 passes, had two shots with 50% hitting the target, created one chance, whipped in five crosses, made two tackles, gave away one foul, made one clearance and had one successful dribble.
The 27-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals with two assists. He caught the attention of Liverpool over the summer and is flourishing under Steven Gerrard, so it’s no surprise that he shone on the big stage.
McGinn isn’t daunted coming up against stellar names at big clubs and deserved to have been on the winning team.
