Villa should be wary of Jeremiah St. Juste’s injuries

Aston Villa are on the hunt for a centre-back this summer and Jornal de Notícias (h/t Sport Witness) believe Jeremiah St. Juste is on their radar. The 25-year-old joined Mainz 05 on a four-year deal from Feyenoord (2017 – 2019) in 2019 and has gone on to make 69 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with three assists.

Leicester City and West Ham United have been linked with St. Juste, but Sporting are leading the race for his signature. Villa should be wary about signing the uncapped Dutchman, however, as he’s had a lot of injuries in recent years and could be a liability.

St. Juste made 15/34 Eredivisie appearances in 2017/18 due to a long-term shoulder injury. He made 23/34 Eredivisie appearances in 2018/19 due to a hamstring injury. The 25-year-old made 25/34 Bundesliga appearances in 2019/20 due to a shoulder injury and knee problem. And this season, he’s made 8/32 Bundesliga appearances due to a shoulder injury.

The Dutchman has missed 63 league games in the last five seasons due to injury and hasn’t played since Janaury, so Villa might be better off turning their attentions elsewhere.
