Atalanta may have to pay £33.9m to sign Matty Cash

Matty Cash has enjoyed an impressive campaign at Aston Villa, resulting in him being named Supporters Player of the Season, so it’s not surprising that he’s attracted interest from overseas. Calciomercato (h/t Sport Witness) say the 24-year-old is a transfer target for Atalanta, but it’s hard to see the Serie A outfit procuring his signature this summer.

Cash joined Villa from Nottingham Forest in 2020 and has gone on to make 66 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with six assists. The Polish international, who was on England’s radar last season’, has played in all 36 of Villa’s Premier League outings, amassing 3200 minutes from a possible 3240, so he’s an integral player under Steven Gerrard.

Calciomercato say Atalanta might have luck signing the £65k-per-week right-back for €40m (£33.9m), but that doesn’t seem likely. Cash has been one of Villa’s best-performers this season, so it makes little sense for Gerrard to let him go. The 24-year-old has five years remaining on his deal too, so the Midlands outfit aren’t obligated to cash in.

Atalanta may have to turn their attentions elsewhere.

In other news, Frederic Guilbert could leave Aston Villa this summer regardless of wife’s comments

matchday.
