Dean Jones predicts ‘forgotten man’ Morgan Sanson will be sold

It’s no secret that Morgan Sanson is unwanted at Aston Villa and doesn’t have a future under Steven Gerrard, so a summer sale is surely on the cards.

The 27-year-old finds himself behind Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba, John McGinn, Tom Iroegbunam, Carney Chukwuemeka and Jacob Ramsey in the pecking order, so he won’t get playing time next season unless he leaves Villa. Boubacar Kamara’s arrival hampers his chances even more too.

Dean Jones believes Sanson will be moved on ahead of the new campaign, telling Give Me Sport: “Forgotten man Morgan Sanson looks sure to go.” The uncapped Frenchman joined Villa on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Olympique Marseille in January 2021, making just 20 appearances in all competitions.

He amassed just 291 minutes of Premier League football in his debut season at Villa and managed 439 minutes of playing time this campaign, so the writing has been on the wall for some time. Sanson wasn’t fancied by Dean Smith and hasn’t impressed Gerrard either, so something has gone wrong for him in England.

Villa spent £14m on the 27-year-old last year and would be lucky to make back that money through his sale given how much his stock has fallen.
