- Aston Villa have expressed an interest in Jarrod Bowen
- No club-to-club talks have taken place
- Currently, a deal is financially difficult
Aston Villa have expressed a strong interest in signing West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen this summer. Unai Emery is keen to add attacking reinforcements, with a winger at the very top of his list.
Having successfully guided Villa through an incredible season, where his team lifted the Europa League and finished inside the top four, Emery is seeking to inject proven Premier League quality into his ranks.
According to a report by Jacob Tanswell and Roshane Thomas in The Athletic’s Transfer DealSheet, the Midlands club has firmly made its admiration for Jarrod Bowen known. Despite this clear intent, no formal club-to-club discussions have taken place yet.
Emery is known to be a huge admirer of the 29-year-old. The Englishman’s relentless work rate, tactical intelligence, and versatility across the front line make him an ideal fit for Emery’s system at Villa.
Despite West Ham’s bleak performances last season, Bowen was consistently a standout performer, offering the exact goal threat Villa require to continue their ascent.

Financial stumbling block
While the sporting project at Villa Park is highly attractive, the logistics of the transfer remain incredibly complex. As reported by Tanswell, Villa currently view an agreement as “difficult to do” without orchestrating significant player departures first. For a fourth consecutive campaign, financial sustainability rules tightly restrict Villa’s transfer ambitions, meaning they must sell before they can actively buy.
Furthermore, negotiating with West Ham will not be straightforward. Following their recent relegation to the Championship, the Hammers are bracing for life without some of their marquee names, but they are highly reluctant to part with their club captain.
Potential negotiations for Bowen are said to begin at £50 million, a figure that would be too high for Villa to consider. Additionally, West Ham are reluctant to part with their captain, and so will likely hold out for as much as possible should things progress.

For Bowen, the situation presents a major career crossroads. The forward has yet to definitively decide whether he wishes to leave East London. While loyalty to West Ham remains a strong factor, the allure of returning to the Premier League and playing under a world-class manager like Emery could prove too tempting to ignore as the summer window progresses.
However, from a Villa perspective, whilst Bowen would be an excellent addition, the reported price tag of £50 million seems far too high for a player his age. Villa cannot afford to spend that much on one player, especially when they need to prioritise the signing of younger players to enable them to continually evolve the squad. If they can bring the price down significantly, then a deal would make sense.
