Ebony Salmon departs Aston Villa to join West Ham United on two-year deal

Ebony Salmon has left Aston Villa to join West Ham United on a two-year contract.

The 25-year-old forward moves after leaving Villa at the end of last season, when her contract expired.

BBC Sport reported that Salmon made 75 appearances for Villa before her exit. West Ham confirmed the deal on Friday, making her Rita Guarino’s seventh signing of the summer.

Salmon came through Villa’s academy before breaking into the first team. She later joined Manchester United, had a loan spell at Sheffield United, then played for Bristol City, Racing Louisville and Houston Dash.

Her departure is another attacking change for Villa Women this summer. ReadAstonVilla recently looked at how Amalie Vangsgaard gives Villa a stronger penalty-box threat, with Natalia Arroyo reshaping her forward options before the new WSL season.

Villa Attack Continues To Change

Salmon leaves with real Villa roots. She developed through the club’s academy and later returned as a senior player with WSL and international experience.

The move also gives her a fresh start. West Ham finished third from bottom last season and need more pace, movement and goals in the final third.

For Villa, the focus now stays on the rebuild. Arroyo has already added new attacking pieces, while ReadAstonVilla also covered Justine Kielland’s arrival as part of a wider summer squad reset.

Salmon’s exit does not arrive in isolation. Villa have been changing the shape of the squad for weeks, with new signings and departures altering the forward group.

The key now is balance. Villa need enough goals, but they also need a clearer structure around the players who stay.

Salmon will try to restart at West Ham. Villa, meanwhile, continue building a different attack under Arroyo.
