Lucas Digne has verbally agreed personal terms on a three-year deal to rejoin Paris Saint-Germain, compounding a bruising week of exits at Aston Villa.
According to a fresh update from ESPN, Digne agreed to the move as soon as PSG made contact, with the France international set to sign after triggering a release clause in his Villa contract believed to be worth less than £10million. The 32-year-old will return to the club he left for Barcelona a decade ago, ten years on from his boyhood departure from the Parc des Princes.
Luis Enrique Guarantees Regular Football Despite Nuno Mendes Competition
Digne will operate as back-up to Nuno Mendes in Paris, but has been guaranteed regular game time by manager Luis Enrique and sporting adviser Luis Campos, according to the same report. It represents a significant show of faith for a player who has been Unai Emery’s first-choice left-back since Villa were first informed of PSG’s interest earlier this week, with Ian Maatsen never quite able to dislodge him from the role.
Digne joined Villa from Everton in 2022 for £30million and has made more than 180 appearances across all competitions since, extending his contract with the club as recently as last season. His exit lands the same week Villa are also braced to lose Youri Tielemans, with Manchester United having triggered the Belgian’s own release clause, leaving Emery facing two separate rebuilding jobs in defence and midfield simultaneously.
Villa are already believed to have made contact with AC Milan over a replacement at left-back, though no formal bid has been lodged. With both exits now advancing on parallel tracks, expect Emery’s recruitment team to move quickly once either deal is rubber-stamped.
