Unai Emery moves to reunite with £65m Chelsea player

Aston Villa are in direct talks over a Nicolas Jackson transfer as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his attack following Morgan Rogers’ move to Chelsea.

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg says Villa are speaking to both Chelsea and Jackson’s representatives.

The clubs are exploring a permanent transfer and a possible loan. However, Plettenberg stressed that no agreement has been reached with either Chelsea or the player.

Chelsea reportedly value Jackson at up to £65million. The Blues signed him from Villarreal for around £32million in 2023 before sending him to Bayern Munich on loan last season.

Jackson scored 11 goals in 33 appearances for the German champions, although he regularly operated behind Harry Kane in the attacking order.

Nicolas Jackson transfer could reunite striker with Emery

A Nicolas Jackson transfer would reunite the Senegal international with the manager who oversaw his development at Villarreal.

Jackson previously credited Emery with teaching him “everything” during their time together in Spain. The Villa manager also publicly praised the forward’s potential before leaving Villarreal in 2022.

That relationship could help Villa move ahead of rival suitors. Emery already understands Jackson’s strengths, personality and the areas of his game that require improvement.

The 25-year-old can lead the attack or move into wider positions. His speed, pressing and movement would give Villa another threat in transition, although he would not directly replace Rogers’ creativity.

Villa may therefore need to strengthen more than one attacking position. The club have already explored alternative wide options after seeing a recent €30million offer for Palmeiras winger Allan rejected.

Chelsea’s valuation could make a permanent deal difficult after Villa’s other major summer investments. A loan containing an option or obligation to buy may provide a more realistic solution.

Talks remain active, but Villa must still find an agreement with Chelsea before Jackson can reunite with Emery.
