Emi Martinez could become Aston Villa’s record Premier League clean-sheet holder during the opening months of the new season.
The clean sheet record currently stands at 60 for Villa, leaving the Argentina international just five away from moving beyond Mark Bosnich.
Bosnich leads Villa’s Premier League rankings with 64 clean sheets.
Martinez has reached 60 since joining from Arsenal in September 2020, including seven Premier League shutouts last season.
Another four would move him level with Bosnich. Five would therefore leave the 33-year-old alone at the top of Villa’s Premier League standings.
That milestone could arrive relatively early in 2026/27 if Martinez remains at Villa Park.
Emi Martinez clean sheet record within reach
Unai Emery’s side begin their Premier League campaign away at Brighton before hosting champions Arsenal.
Matches against newly promoted Hull City, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham then follow during Villa’s opening five fixtures.
Martinez is unlikely to reach the record during that sequence alone, but his previous numbers suggest supporters may not have to wait long.
His future has created uncertainty throughout the summer. ReadAstonVilla reported this week that Villa could consider a new offer for Martinez amid continued interest in the World Cup winner.
However, should he remain, another significant piece of Villa history is within touching distance.
Martinez has already won the Europa League with Villa while collecting two Yashin Trophies and major international honours with Argentina.
Five more Premier League clean sheets would now give him a club record of his own.
