Leon Bailey set for Hull City medical as Aston Villa exit nears

Leon Bailey is reportedly expected to undergo a medical with Hull City on Wednesday afternoon as the Aston Villa winger pushes to complete his move before the weekend.

Bailey’s proposed switch to the newly-promoted Premier League side appeared to have fallen apart earlier this week, with Villa beginning to consider alternative destinations for the Jamaica international.

However, talks have subsequently moved forward again.

Hull Live reporter Barry Cooper now says Bailey is expected to undergo his medical this afternoon in an attempt to complete the deal before the weekend.

The 28-year-old is also understood to have pushed for the move himself.

Bailey’s desire to make the switch is significant after uncertainty surrounding negotiations.

ReadAstonVilla reported on Tuesday that the Hull deal appeared to have collapsed, with Saudi Pro League clubs subsequently emerging as alternative options.

Wednesday’s development suggests Hull have managed to revive negotiations quickly.

Bailey has remained in England rather than joining Unai Emery’s squad on their pre-season tour of Asia, allowing him to work towards resolving his future.

talkSPORT previously reported that Bailey had been left out of the travelling squad while negotiations with Hull progressed, with Villa keen to secure his departure this summer.

His contract expires in 2027, making this window an important opportunity for Villa to receive a fee rather than allowing him to enter the final months of his deal.

Bailey spent the first half of last season on loan at Roma before returning to Villa Park in January.

He made 13 Premier League appearances following his return but is not expected to have a major role under Emery during the new campaign.

Nothing can be considered complete until Bailey passes his medical and the necessary paperwork is signed.

However, after the deal appeared to be off only a day ago, his Hull move is now firmly back on.
