Aston Villa have reportedly opened talks with Jonathan David’s representatives as Unai Emery’s interest in the Juventus striker begins to advance.
The Canada international is increasingly open to leaving Turin, with Juventus believed to value him at around €20million.
Villa have been exploring attacking reinforcements as Emery looks to add another forward alongside Ollie Watkins before the transfer window closes.
ReadAstonVilla reported earlier on Tuesday that Villa had made a fresh enquiry over David, with a potential loan initially among the options being considered.
Aston Villa open talks over Jonathan David move
Sport Witness, citing Tuttosport, now reports that David’s representatives have held talks with both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace over a possible move.
Juventus are reportedly hoping to receive around €20million for the striker as they continue to reshape their squad.
David’s wage demands could still complicate negotiations, but the forward is said to be becoming increasingly receptive to a move away from Turin.
That represents a significant step forward from Villa simply asking for information about his situation.
ReadAstonVilla reported on Sunday that Villa were considering a surprise loan move for David after learning he could become available.
There is now evidence that discussions have progressed.
David is understood to prefer the possibility of joining Villa or Crystal Palace over other approaches, with European football an attractive factor in his thinking.
Villa’s interest also comes as Emery’s attacking options could change again before the end of the window.
Crystal Palace are advancing talks to bring Evann Guessand back on loan, with a potential option to buy also being discussed.
A Guessand departure would create further space in the squad for another senior forward.
No agreement has yet been reached with David or Juventus, but talks with his representatives suggest Villa’s interest has moved beyond the exploratory stage.
The next step will be whether Villa decide to turn those discussions into a formal proposal.
