Aston Villa sensation Brian Madjo remains eligible to represent England at senior level despite already making three appearances for Luxembourg.
Madjo became one of the biggest talking points in European football on Wednesday night after scoring against Paris Saint-Germain and becoming the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history.
The 17-year-old’s international situation now adds another fascinating layer to his rapid rise.
talkSPORT reports that all three of Madjo’s senior Luxembourg appearances came in friendly matches, meaning they did not permanently tie him to the country.
Brian Madjo remains available to England
Madjo was born in Enfield before growing up in Luxembourg and beginning his football career there.
He represented Luxembourg at youth level and then made three appearances for their senior team before subsequently moving into the England pathway.
The striker has already played for England’s Under-17s, scoring goals and even captaining the Young Lions during the 2025/26 season.
His performances for Luxembourg therefore do not prevent him from potentially representing England’s senior team in the future.
The timing of the discussion could hardly be more striking.
ReadAstonVilla covered how Madjo smashed the UEFA Super Cup record with his historic Aston Villa goal against PSGon Wednesday night.
At just 17 years and 212 days, he became the competition’s youngest goalscorer after converting John McGinn’s delivery shortly before half-time.
It was Madjo’s first competitive Villa appearance following the club’s successful appeal against FIFA over his registration.
One performance should not create unrealistic expectations around a teenager still at the beginning of his career.
However, his combination of size, movement and finishing ability has already attracted attention far beyond Villa Park.
Madjo’s immediate focus will be establishing himself in Emery’s squad.
If his development continues at anything like its current rate, though, his international future could eventually become a much bigger conversation.
