Aston Villa have been handed a fresh route to resolve Emiliano Martinez’s uncertain future after the goalkeeper was offered to Chelsea by his representatives. The development comes after Martinez’s proposed move to Juventus collapsed, leaving Unai Emery with an awkward goalkeeping situation late in the transfer window.
The Athletic reports that Chelsea are considering the possibility of signing the Argentina international.
Martinez’s representatives have offered the 33-year-old to the Stamford Bridge club, with his Villa future now increasingly uncertain.
Emi Martinez Chelsea transfer could solve Villa problem
Villa have already made their long-term decision in goal.
Zion Suzuki completed his move from Parma and has been brought in to become Emery’s new No.1.
Marco Bizot instead started Sunday’s 4-0 Premier League defeat against Brighton, while The Athletic reports Martinez has been training alone over the past week.
That makes the latest Chelsea development significant.
Villa had been searching for another solution after Juventus decided not to proceed with their move earlier this month. Martinez had pushed for an exit for a second successive summer, having also attracted interest from Manchester United in 2025.
Chelsea now represent a realistic Premier League route.
Robert Sanchez started their opening 3-2 win at Fulham but was at fault for both goals conceded, while 21-year-old Mike Penders was named among the substitutes.
No offer from Chelsea has yet been reported, so Villa still require the interest to turn into negotiations.
However, the situation is clearer than it was after Juventus walked away.
Villa have already chosen Suzuki as their future No.1. Martinez appears ready to leave, and his representatives are now actively looking for the move that would finally bring his six-year spell at Villa Park to an end.
