Aston Villa deadline day: Four deals could still reshape Emery’s squad

Aston Villa enter transfer deadline day with Unai Emery’s dramatic summer rebuild still unfinished and four deals remaining unresolved before Tuesday night’s 11pm cut-off.

Villa have already transformed their squad after a remarkable series of arrivals and departures, but there could still be significant business at Villa Park.

Ibrahim Mbaye and Taylor Harwood-Bellis are both deep into the completion process, while the futures of Leon Bailey and Tammy Abraham remain uncertain.

The Premier League has confirmed that the summer transfer window closes at 23:00 BST on Tuesday 1 September.

Clubs can also use a deal sheet to secure extra time when an agreement has been reached before the deadline but all documentation cannot be completed by 11pm.

Here are the four Aston Villa deals to watch.

Ibrahim Mbaye awaiting Aston Villa announcement

Mbaye is comfortably the most advanced incoming deal.

Villa have agreed a €55million transfer with Paris Saint-Germain and the 18-year-old has already travelled to England.

The Senegal international has also completed his medical, as ReadAstonVilla reported when the transfer entered its final stage.

L’Equipe reported that Mbaye travelled to England to undergo his medical and sign his Villa contract, with the deal worth €55m.

All of the major hurdles therefore appear to have been cleared.

What Villa have not done yet is announce the signing officially.

That is now the trigger.

There is little value in another story claiming Mbaye is “close” after we have already covered the €55m agreement and his completed medical.

Once Villa confirm him, the transfer deserves a fresh completion URL.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis deal reaches final stage

Harwood-Bellis is another signing Villa hope to complete.

After Southampton rejected two previous bids, the clubs finally reached an agreement worth up to £30m.

Our report on Villa finally getting their man detailed a package consisting of £25m guaranteed and another £5m in add-ons.

That structure was independently reported by Sky Sports, which confirmed Villa had reached an agreement in principle with Southampton.

The 24-year-old is being lined up to strengthen Emery’s centre-back options following Ezri Konsa’s move to Arsenal.

Unlike Mbaye, there is little reason to create another speculative URL while the completion process plays out.

The existing Harwood-Bellis article can continue absorbing normal progression unless Villa’s announcement produces a genuinely fresh angle.

Leon Bailey future remains unresolved

Bailey’s situation is considerably less certain.

Villa have spent much of the summer exploring an exit for the Jamaica international.

Sevilla emerged as the latest serious option, with ReadAstonVilla revealing that Villa could even extend Bailey’s contract before sanctioning a season-long loan.

There is still no agreement.

Spanish outlet AS continues to list Bailey among Sevilla’s attacking options, although his salary represents an obstacle and Sevilla’s other business could influence whether they move for another winger.

Villa’s additions have increased the competition around Bailey.

Mbaye’s expected arrival would only strengthen the possibility of a departure.

Deadline day now provides the final opportunity for Villa to find a solution before the English window closes.

Tammy Abraham still has decision to make

Abraham could also leave Villa Park.

Ipswich Town have already reached an agreement with Villa over a season-long loan, but the move has been waiting on the striker’s approval.

talkSPORT reported that the final decision rests with Abraham, leaving Villa unable to consider the transfer complete.

Other options have subsequently emerged, including reported interest from Turkey.

Abraham was part of the Villa squad against Arsenal on Monday night, coming off the bench as Emery searched for an equaliser.

That makes his position particularly intriguing.

Villa have already sold Ollie Watkins and made Nicolas Jackson their new leading striker, but Abraham remains a useful senior option if no satisfactory exit materialises.

A clear decision from the player would finally move this story beyond the stage we have been monitoring for several days.

Aston Villa approach final hours of extraordinary rebuild

Few Premier League squads have changed as substantially as Villa’s.

The extent of the turnover has already resulted in Aston Villa making unwanted English football history following a six-player exodus from their European final XI.

Deadline day could put the finishing touches on that overhaul.

Mbaye and Harwood-Bellis appear closest to arriving.

Bailey and Abraham provide the bigger uncertainty.

By 11pm on Tuesday, Emery should finally know the squad he must take forward into the opening months of the 2026/27 season.
