Brian Madjo injury update as Unai Emery confirms Aston Villa return plan

Brian Madjo is closing in on an Aston Villa return after Unai Emery confirmed the teenager will rejoin group training during the international break.

The 17-year-old has not featured since scoring against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup after suffering an injury shortly afterwards.

Emery has now provided his clearest update yet on when Madjo could be available again.

Emery confirms Madjo training return

Speaking before Villa’s win at Tottenham, Emery told The Athletic that Madjo remains on an individual programme but is set to return to collective training during the break.

The Villa boss hopes the forward can then become available once domestic football resumes.

Madjo’s status can also be followed in our regularly updated Aston Villa injury tracker.

Villa return to Premier League action against Brentford on 10 October, although Emery has not confirmed that fixture as Madjo’s comeback date.

Madjo finally nearing Aston Villa comeback

The injury halted considerable momentum.

Madjo had just become the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history when he struck against PSG on his competitive Villa debut.

He has subsequently missed Villa’s opening domestic and European fixtures.

Competition has also increased following Nicolas Jackson’s arrival, but getting Madjo fit again would give Emery another attacking option heading into a congested October schedule.

The international break should now provide the teenager with the uninterrupted training period he needs to complete his recovery.
