Aston Villa name Buendía September Goal of the Month winner

Aston Villa have named Emi Buendía their September Goal of the Month winner for his spectacular strike against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine scored Villa’s third goal in the 3–2 victory in north London on 19 September, curling a long-range effort into the top corner.

Villa confirmed Buendía’s award on Monday, recognising one of the standout moments from their first Premier League win of the season.

Buendía Goal of the Month success follows Spurs strike

Johan Manzambi and Nicolas Jackson had already scored before Buendía extended Villa’s advantage.

Tottenham subsequently struck twice, making the midfielder’s finish crucial to the final result.

His contribution also went beyond scoring, as we examined in our analysis of Buendía’s role in Villa’s rebuilt attack.

Monday’s announcement concerns Aston Villa’s own monthly award.

Buendía and Jackson were also shortlisted for the separate Premier League September Goal of the Month prize for their efforts in the same match.

Our report on the pair’s Premier League nominations covers that competition, whose public voting window closed at noon on Monday.

Villa’s announcement does not confirm the outcome of the league-wide award.
