Aston Villa defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis has vowed to keep pushing for a regular place in Unai Emery’s side ahead of Friday’s friendly against Sevilla.
The 24-year-old joined from Southampton on 1 September and made his debut in the Carabao Cup victory over Coventry City. He now wants to build on that early opportunity.
Speaking to VillaTV in an interview published by the club, he said:
“I’ll keep working and I won’t stop until I get my run of games.”
Taylor Harwood-Bellis targets Aston Villa starting spot
Harwood-Bellis says he has settled quickly at Villa, praising his team-mates and staff while acknowledging the quality of the players competing for places.
That competition could increase following Pau Torres’ reported return to training in Spain, although his involvement does not yet confirm match readiness.
Friday’s friendly offers Harwood-Bellis a potential opportunity to strengthen his case before Brentford visit Villa Park on 10 October.
With Villa facing nine matches across 30 days after the break, Emery will have to manage recovery time alongside results.
That makes reliable alternatives valuable. For Harwood-Bellis, the immediate task is to turn any minutes in Spain into evidence that Emery can trust him when the league resumes.
