Breaking news this morning is suggesting that Christian Benteke is set to sign for Liverpool within the next 48 hours.
Benteke, 24, has been linked with a move away from Villa Park after his release clause was revealed in May by Tim Sherwood as being £32.5 million and now Sky Sports are reporting a deal with Liverpool is imminent.
Big Blow
The news will come as a big blow to Villa and their faithful fans. Benteke has been a shining light in some tough years for Villa and has saved them on many occasions. But his maverick performances have caught the eyes of some of the top sides in Europe. Wolfsburg, Atletico Madrid, and Liverpool have all kept an eye on him at some point.
The 24-year old joined Villa in August 2012 on deadline day from Genk for £7-million returning with 19 goals in 34 games in his debut season.
The fantastic debut season led to clubs calling for Benteke. Benteke submitted a transfer request but soon signed a new deal at Villa park. For 2013/14 Benteke hit 10 goals in 26 games. A season-ending injury disrupted a stop-start campaign for the Belgian frontman.
Benteke hit 13 goals in an injury and confidence hit campaign last season but was firing on all cylinders when Tim Sherwood arrived. The Belgian has scored 42 goals in 88 games for Villa and will be a huge gap to fill if reports from Sky Sports are correct.
