Wilson A Target For Sherwood

Wilson A Target For Sherwood

With Christian Benteke likely to depart to Liverpool within the next week, it’s time for Tim Sherwood to look at his options for replacing the Belgian centre-forward. With money more or less no object thanks to the £32.5 million pound release clause in his contract, a number of players have been linked over the past few days.

One of these has been Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, who was the club’s top goal scorer as they secured promotion from the Championship last season.

He joined the south coast club from our Midland rivals Coventry City for Bournemouth for just under £2 million and fired the club to Premier League with 23 goals in all competitions, 20 of them coming in the Championship.  His form in firing Bournemouth to the top of the league resulted in his first call up to the England U21 squad in November 2014.

With the fee for the rumoured switch to be £7 million, it would represent a healthy profit for Bournemouth considering they only paid £3 million for him last summer. However, they are under no pressure to sell and could be prepared to hold out for more considering Villa will have money to spend following Benteke’s impending departure.

Would you welcome Wilson being Villa’s main striker or would you prefer a more experienced option? Let us know…
