Roberto Di Matteo has faced the press for the first time since taking over as Aston Villa boss speaking of his happiness to be taking charge of what he described as “a big club with a rich history and huge potential.”

Reported by the Birmingham Mail, Di Matteo faced questions from the press on his plans to get the Villans back to the Premier League and what it would take to get the Midlands side back to the top flight of English football.
The former Chelsea manager believes that the upcoming season will be tough and long saying that he needed the right characters in the squad for that journey.

He went on to describe the challenge ahead over the coming season but was often seen beaming with happiness throughout the press conference alongside new owner Dr Tony Xia and chief executive Keith Wyness at Villa Park.
