Aston Villa have been somehow linked with the Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani according to a report.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports how the Championship side have got an interest in bringing the striker to Villa Park from the Portuguese top flight with Serie A side Napoli, Wolsburg and Everton also showing an interest.
The rumour does seem far fetched with the Algerian international bagging 31 goals last season attracting Champions League interest, but Dr Tony Xia has promised a ‘powerful striker’ but you would have to assume Villa are out of the race for him.
Slimani has scored on 56 occassions in 107 games for Sporting since joining the Portugese side from Algerian side CR Belouizdad.
The interest for Slimani is bound to be literally a small interest if any in him. He is one of the most highly touted strikers in Europe right now and for Villa to even consider a bid would open a few people’s eyes.
With Napoli in the market for a striker with Gonzalo Higuain said to be off to Juventus you can only hope he fancies rainy Birmingham over sunny Naples…
