According to the Daily Mirror, Watford goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon is set to join Aston Villa in a £2 million deal.
With Brad Guzan leaving Villa on a free this week to join Premier League club Middlesbrough, there is now a vacant goalkeeping spot that needs to be filled.
As reported in the Daily Mirror earlier this month, Di Matteo has been trying to convince Pantilimon to choose regular first-team football in the Championship over sitting on the bench for Watford in the top tier of English football.
However, Pantilimon was concerned that he would have to take a big pay cut on the 50k a week wages he is currently earning at Vicarage Road.
Yet, despite these concerns, it seems that he will be plying his trade with Villa next season as he has been informed by Watford that he will definitely be their second choice keeper behind Heurelho Gomes.
Di Matteo wants someone to battle Gollini for the number one spot and it seems that he believes that Pantilimon is the perfect candidate.
