Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia announced on Twitter yesterday that the club were closing in on a deal for a midfielder that would hopefully be announced before Saturday’s game against Rotherham United.
Twitter: Very exciting news for fans: very close to a deal with the mid! Hopefully b4 Saturday! (@Dr_TonyXia)
Pat Murphy of the BBC has this morning reported that isn’t the case with a move not said to be going ahead.
Twitter: @Stewie_Villa @AVFCOfficial Understand the midfielder wanted by Dr Tony isn’t a runner. Don’t know his identity yet. (@patmurphybbc)
The Villa faithful have been left wondering who their owner was talking about when he was talking about bringing in a midfielder, but now seemingly the move will not be happening.
The main summer rumours so far have involved Mile Jedinak of Crystal Palace, Liam Bridcutt of Sunderland and Ravel Morrison of Lazio.
Many Villa fans will be hopeful that a deal can be pulled through after another midfielder left the club yesterday with Carlos Sanchez off to Serie A side Fiorentina.
