According to a report from The Northern Echo, Aston Villa are set to make a late move for West Brom defender James Chester – but Middlesbrough are confident of landing the Wales international.
It’s well documented that Boro’s interest in The Baggies’ man has been strong as of late and they are reportedly keen to tie up a deal for the Welshman in the next 48 hours.
However, it now looks as though West Brom’s rivals Villa are plotting a late swoop for the central defender as they look to bolster their defence ahead of the coming season.

Chester signed for West Brom just last season in an £8 million deal from Hull but he has really found first-team opportunities hard to come by since his arrival, making just 12 Premier League appearances under Tony Pulis.
The offer from Middlesbrough is said to be around £5 million; a fee that can surely be matched by Villa if the interest is concrete.
