Sunderland plan late bid for Aston Villa outcast

Premier League side Sunderland could well hijack Rangers move for the Aston Villa outcast Joleon Lescott according to a report.

ITV say that the Black Cats have expressed an interest in Lescott, who is expected to complete a move to Ibrox soon.

Lescott has failed to feature yet under Roberto Di Matteo this season and has been reportedly told he can leave on a free transfer.

He has worked under Sunderland boss David Moyes before at Everton so that could be a pull for Lescott along with one last shot at the Premier League.

The former England international was spotted meeting Rangers boss Mark Warburton yesterday though as a move to Scotland edges closer.

The centre back featured on 30 occasions last season as the Villans were relegated to the second tier of English football for the first time in 28 years. His fractured relationship with the Villa faithful came after he tweeted a picture of a car just after a 6-0 drubbing to Liverpool.
