Aston Villa look set to be beaten to target Bas Dost with Championship rivals Newcastle United said to have stole the march on the Wolfsburg man.
George Caulkin from the Times and Lee Ryder from the Chronicle report that the Magpies are in talks with the Bundesliga side about a move for the Dutch international.
Twitter: Bas Dost has also been pursued by Aston Villa – as well as some PL clubs – but a degree of optimism at #Nufc that he’ll sign. (@CaulkinTheTimes)

Bas Dost moved to Wolfsburg in 2012 from Dutch side Heerenveen and has since gone on to score 36 goals in for the Wolves.
The 26 year old has struggled for a consistent run of games in the past few years at Wolfsburg and with Mario Gomez recently joining his game time could be reduced even more in the upcoming season.
Both Aston Villa and Newcastle United are on the hunt to strengthen their forward line with both keen to seal and automatic return back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
