Gollini Is On Juventus’ List of Keepers to Replace Buffon

According to Goal, Italian giants Juventus are now on the look out for a replacement for their legendary keeper, Gianluigi Buffon.

The 38-year-old is coming to the end of his very successful and highly decorated career.

He has been playing with Juventus for 15 years and has won the Serie A 7 times. To add to this, he is the most capped Italian player ever with 165 appearances (and the 2006 World Cup) to his name.

Juventus feel that Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma is the perfect replacement for Buffon. The 17-year-old is undoubtedly a fine keeper and he has been attracting plenty of attention since he broke into Milan’s starting XI.

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly closely monitoring him. He will have a tricky decision to make should all three come calling at once.

However, Donnarumma is not the only young goalkeeper on Juventus’ radar. Juventus will realise that it will be difficult to pry Donnarumma from a main rival and, therefore, they have also been keeping an eye on Aston Villa’s Pierluigi Gollini and Udinese’s Alex Meret.

When Gollini joined Villa, he declared that he had turned down a move to join Juventus because he was certain the Buffon was going to be playing for at least another 2 years. Therefore, his playing time would have been severely limited.

When Buffon finally announces his retirement, if Juventus come knocking again, it is hard to see Gollini turning them away once more.
