Rudy Gestede set for Middlesbrough transfer

Rudy Gestede hasn’t been a first-team regular for Aston Villa under Steve Bruce and it looks like the manager will now cash-in on the striker when the January transfer window opens next month.

According to the Guardian’s Ed Aarons, Gestede is poised to join Premier League side Middlesbrough in a £6.5m deal despite interest from Crystal Palace, West Brom and Championship rivals Newcastle.

Aston Villa spent big on strikers in the summer with the arrivals of Ross McCormack from Leeds and Jonathan Kodjia from Bristol City which did make first-team opportunities limited for Gestede.

A £7.2m arrival from Blackburn in the summer of 2015 where he’s scored 10 goals in 54 appearances for the club including four in 17 so far this season.

With Gestede set to leave the club, Villa now have a decent transfer kitty next month for this level to spend on improving the squad and see if they can salvage a place in the play-offs or maybe better.
