According to The Birmingham Mail, Villa are closing in on Barnsley’s Conor Hourihane, with the midfielder supposedly due for a medical in the coming days.
This, along with the imminent arrival of Nottingham Forest captain Henri Lansbury for £3 million, is exactly the kind of news that the Villa faithful have been waiting to hear. It is believed that the fee for Barnsley’s captain will be around £1 million.
Villa have been seriously lacking in creativity in the midfield this season as the likes of Westwood, Gardener, Tshibola and Jedinak do not exactly score many goals or create many chances. However, this will all change with the addition of Lansbury and Hourihane.
Lansbury has 6 goals and 3 assists so far this campaign, while Hourihane, on the other hand, has 5 goals and an astonishing 12 assists. In short, if you combine the two, they have provided 9 more goals and 11 more assists than Villa’s current center- midfield players.
If Villa do end up getting both these players for a combined total of just £4 million, it will be money well spent.
