According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are now looking at Burnley striker Ashley Barnes after having been priced out of a move Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes.
Villa bid £6 million pounds for Rhodes, but it is understood that Middlesbrough are trying to recoup all of the money that they paid for him a year ago, around £11 million.
Barnes finds himself behind Andre Gray and Sam Vokes in the pecking order at Burnley after having returned from a horrific knee injury which was picked up last season.
Barnes, like a vast majority of the players that was signed by Sean Dyche, is tenacious and isn’t afraid to put in the hard work. This work ethic of his will appeal to Steve Bruce, not to mention his impressive record in the league with Brighton.
According to the paper’s sources in the North West, Bruce is very keen to lure Barnes to Villa Park and is prepared to stump up around £5 million for him.
