According to reports, Aston Villa are eyeing up a loan deal for Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom.
When the season started, Villa had an array of striker options at their disposal. However, with Gestede having been sold to Middlesbrough, Ross McCormack having been demoted to training with the youngsters because of indiscipline, and Ayew and Kodjia playing in the AFCON, Villa are now left with just Gabby Agbonlahor up front. Therefore, they are on the look out for a new striker and Akpom is the next man that Villa are reportedly looking at.
It was decided in the summer that Akpom would stay at Arsenal and try to fight his way into first team contention, but he has not been able to. As a result, Wenger is looking to loan him out until the end of the season, and Bruce seems interested.
Bruce and Akpom know each other quite well as he had the striker on-loan when he was manager at Hull, and that could very well work in Villa’s favour.
