Is this Midfielder’s Time at Villa Finally Coming to an End?

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood is attracting attention from Premier League side Burnley.

Sean Dyche is a long term admirer of the Villa midfielder and, as a result, he tried to sign him last summer. However, the deal fell through because Burnley couldn’t afford his wages.

However, with Burnley climbing further and further away from a relegation battle (they now sit 5 places and 10 points above the Relegation Zone), they might be willing to take a punt on the 26-year-old.

Westwood has failed to impress in his 4 1/2 years at the club and with the arrival of Henri Lansbury, Conor Hourihane and Birkir Bjarnason this month, he has undoubtedly dropped down the pecking order and will find it difficult to get game time at Villa Park.

Burnley were reportedly willing to pay £6 million for the midfielder last summer and if a similar offer was to be put forward on the last day of the January Transfer Window, Villa would definitely not turn it down. In fact, they’d probably snatch Dyche’s arm off.
