Carles Gil hoping for permanent Aston Villa exit

Carles Gil spent 18 months at Villa Park and for the most part failed to make any real impact.

The £3.6m signing from Valencia made 34 appearances for Villa between January 2015 and May 2016, scoring just three times and assisting in a further three goals – not quite the level of production you’d expect from an attacking midfielder.

Following Villa’s relegation to the Championship, a decision was made to loan him out with Deportivo eager to bring him back to La Liga where he’s enjoyed the best football of his career.

Gil has struggled with injuries this season but has impressed in his 14 La Liga outings for Deportivo, tallying four assists and fans are eager to see him return to Villa Park but he appears less interested.

As quoted by the Birmingham Mail, the 24-year-old appears eager to remain in Spain next season.

The first thing is to talk to Aston Villa. Here I am very happy, but now the priority is to achieve the goal of salvation. I hope I can stay.
