According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa and local rivals West Brom are two clubs who are believed to be chasing Barnsley captain Marc Roberts this summer.
The 26-year-old defender was highly impressive last season as the Tykes held their own in their season back in the second tier of English football. As a result of his stand out performances, it is thought that there are several clubs after his signature.
Villa manager Steve Bruce is plotting Villa’s return to the Premier League, and he is currently on the lookout for another centre-back who will be able to compete with Chester and Baker.
Roberts, along with Norwegian international Vegard Forren, have been heavily linked with a switch to Villa Park. However, it won’t be easy to acquire his signature as Premier League club West Brom are also interested. If this is true, it will be hard to convince Roberts to stay in the Championship.
