Aston Villa didn’t do enough last season with their resources to mount a serious challenge on the play-off places let alone the automatic promotion spots and Steve Bruce has a tough job on his hands to guide Villa back into the Premier League.
Given the club’s dubious financial situation regarding FFP, there are limited funds for Bruce to spend this summer, which could lead him to look at free transfer acquisitions.
According to the Daily Mail, Villa are amongst four Championship clubs that are said to be interested in signing Real Zaragoza striker Angel Rodriguez on a free transfer this summer.
The 30-year-old striker netted 21 goals in 39 appearances this past season in the Spanish second tier and he will hit the open market when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Hull, Reading and QPR are all said to be keen on the Spaniard, while Rangers have gone one further and actually watched Angel in action last week against Girona.
