According to a report in the BristolLive, Aston Villa are being linked with a loan move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill.
The 32-year-old played for Villa for four years back in 2004 to 2008, but, for some reason, O’Neil didn’t rate him and he was eventually sold to Bolton. However, he has spent the last six years at Stamford Bridge, where has accrued more than 300 appearances, winning two Premier League titles, a Champions League title, a Europa League title and an FA Cup title.
However, the defender’s future at Chelsea is uncertain as he is yet to feature under new manager Maurizio Sarri this season, so he could be sent out on loan. It is thought that he is content with fighting for his place, but it might not be his decision to make.
Steve Bruce is currently playing Mile Jedinak at centre-back, so an ambitious move for the talented defender would be a good move, but whether he would want to drop down a league is a completely different matter.
However, maybe he will feel that he has some unfinished business at Villa Park.
