Dean Smith arrives at Villa Park ahead of a wave of expectation.
The former Walsall and Brentford boss will take on a squad seen by many as lacking in key areas, and Villa fans will already be thinking about who Smith will try to get in the door.
With that in mind, we thought we’d examine some of Smith’s former players who could make the trip to the West Midlands:
This would be quite the coup for Villa! Watkins has four goals and two assists so far this year, and is developing a reputation as a dangerous winger, capable of driving at defenders and striking fear into their hearts.
Signed from Charlton during the summer, Konsa is making a name for himself as a central defender. On the books of England, the 20-year-old has seven caps for his country at age group. The centre-half may prove to be in demand in a few years, so snapping him up now may prove to be a piece of shrewd business from Smith.
Henry was under Smith at Walsall before following his manager to Brentford. The young left-back may once again be poached by the 47-year-old in his new role. Having missed out on Joe Bryan during the transfer window, a left fullback may be welcome at Aston Villa.
Like Watkins, Maupay is one of Brentford’s most exciting attacking options. The 22-year-old won’t come cheap though – with three goals and three assists so far this season, the forward is equally adept creating goals as he is at scoring them.
The centre back has made 14 appearances for Brentford this season so far, and his tender age of 20 doesn’t seem to even slightly affect his performances. Calm and collected in the heart of the defensive line, signing both he and Konsa could set Villa up for years to come.
