According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are interested in signing Kiril Despodov from CSKA Sofia.
The 22-year-old Bulgarian international is highly thought of in his homeland and it is thought that he would be available for a fee of around £5 million.
The versatile youngster, who can play on either wing or as a supporting striker, has been in fine form in the Parva Liga this season (Bulgaria’s top flight), having scored eight goals and provided seven assists in just 16 games.
Aston Villa have had a few Bulgarian players play for them over the years, so, if this deal was to materialise, let’s hope he is more like Stylian Petrov and not more like Aleksandar Tonev.
However, there will be stiff competition for his signature as it is believed that Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Premier League side Cardiff are also very interested in acquiring his services.
