According to the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa are still interested in signing Yoann Barbet from Brentford this month.
The 25-year-old, who is capable of playing at left-back or centre-back, is out of contract at the end of the season, so Brentford could be forced into selling him this month so that they are not considerably out of pocket come the summer. This also means that Villa could acquire his services for a reduced fee.
The former France u18 international has been in impressive form this season for Brentford and the allure of playing for Dean Smith again – the man who helped him to improve his game considerably when he first moved to England three summers ago – could be too much for him to turn down.
Smith is in desperate need of a defender who can cope when the pressure is well and truly on, and Barbet fits this bill perfectly.
