Villa interested in loan deal for experienced Everton Midfielder
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are interested in bringing Everton’s James McCarthy on loan to the club until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who has 41 caps for the Republic of Ireland, suffered a horrific broken leg last January when playing against West Brom and he has only just returned to training for Everton. He was an unused substitute in their win over Lincoln City in the Fa Cup last weekend.
It is believed that Marco Silva is willing to let him go out on loan for the rest of the season so that he can get some much needed playing time under his belt so that he is back to his best when the new season comes around.
Our Verdict:
Before his horrific injury, McCarthy would have been a great addition to Aston Villa’s midfield as he was a no-nonsense type of player that would have made the defensive midfield position his own. However, he hasn’t played a match in a year, so we don’t think it’s worth Villa taking a risk on him, especially since his wages will be quite high.
