Aston Villa legend Peter Withe has hailed Tammy Abraham’s form for the club this season.
Speaking to the club’s official website, as cited in a report from The Express and Star, the former striker was full of praise for the on-loan forward and described him as a ‘lovely lad’.
Abraham has been in exceptional form for Dean Smith’s side of late and leads the way as the club’s top goalscorer with 20 to his name from only 25 Championship appearances.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a crucial player for Villa following his season-long loan move from Premier League club Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Abraham has been firing freely for the club, and Withe spoke of his respect for the youngster following his decision to snub a move back to the top flight in the January transfer window. He said:
I have spoken to Tammy a couple of times and he seems a lovely lad, a great guy, good personality. He’s down-to-earth.
I have great respect for him, too, because he had the chance to go to the Premier League but he chose to stay with us here at Villa. I’d like to think that’s because he can achieve something here. I’m very pleased with that.
I like the way he plays. He gets a lot of chances and he could really have had even more goals. I think Tammy is a good lad, has a lot to offer, and is also mobile and I think he will improve even more. He’s willing to learn and get better.
Now he’s past 20, his mindset should be ‘right I still have this amount of games left, let’s get to 30’ and really set the record. It’s an opportunity for him, definitely.
The front-man is the first player since Withe to find the back of the net 20 times in a league season for Villa.
