Aston Villa confirmed on Sunday that Wesley Moraes joined Levante on a season-long loan after cutting his stint short at Internacional. The 25-year-old hasn’t played for Villa since August 2021 after falling behind Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings in the pecking order, so it doesn’t appear he has a future back in the Midlands.
Wesley is in his third season at Villa but is embarking upon his third loan move in 12 months as he’s surplus to requirements under Steven Gerrard – Club Brugge (August 2021 – December 2021), Internacional (January 2022 – July 2022), Levante (July 2022 – present).
The Brazilian international still has two years remaining on his deal at Villa, but it’s hard to see him returning due to his poor form since the knee injury.
Wesley rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament changed the course of his career. He scored six goals with one assist from 22 games in 2019/20 and has only managed four appearances since.
He’s now plying his trade in the second tier of Spanish football for a Levante side that were relegated from La Liga last season. And given Wesley hasn’t scored a league goal since January, the Granotes are taking a risk too.
