Aston Villa are weighing up a £15m move for Celta Vigo midfielder Ilaix Moriba as Unai Emery looks to add more power to his midfield.
The 23-year-old Guinea international is valued closer to £25m by Celta, creating a clear valuation gap before Villa decide whether to firm up their interest.
Football Insider, via Yahoo Sports, reports that Villa are keen to make a £15m offer for Moriba, who has also attracted interest from Brighton, Galatasaray and Juventus.
That makes this more than a routine scouting line. It is the first real test of whether Villa can turn long-term admiration into a deal that makes financial sense.
Ilaix Moriba Gives Unai Emery A £10m Valuation Gap
Moriba’s case is intriguing because Celta’s position is not simply sporting.
AS reported last week that Celta had rejected a €15m Galatasaray offer and wanted €20m for the midfielder. The same report said Aston Villa and Brighton had shown interest, while Juventus were also watching the situation.
That background matters. Celta paid around €6m to sign Moriba permanently from RB Leipzig, and his contract runs until 2029. The Spanish club therefore have enough control to resist a low offer, but enough financial pressure to listen at the right level.
For Villa, the appeal is clear. Moriba offers size, ball-carrying power and top-level development history from Barcelona, Leipzig, Valencia and Celta.
He also fits the club’s wider transfer-tracker theme: Emery needs extra midfield athleticism, but Villa cannot afford to chase every target at seller-friendly prices.
Read Aston Villa previously covered how Villa had been tracking Moriba as part of their summer midfield search. This latest update moves the story from scouting file to valuation battle.
The football logic is easy to see. The price is where the deal becomes more delicate.
If Villa can land Moriba closer to £15m, he would look like a strong value play with European experience and room to grow. If Celta hold closer to £25m, Emery and the recruitment team need to decide whether he is a priority midfielder or simply one of several athletic options on the list.
That distinction matters. Villa need power and depth, but they also need discipline.
