Leon Bailey’s Aston Villa exit has taken a fresh twist after his agent confirmed negotiations are taking place with several clubs over the winger’s future.
Craig Butler has revealed that Bailey’s representatives are considering multiple options, with Hull City firmly among the clubs trying to sign the Jamaica international.
“We’re in the middle of negotiations with several clubs,” Butler told the Jamaica Observer.
Hull are described by Butler as a serious option, although he made clear there are still details which need to be resolved before any move can advance.
That leaves Villa with an increasingly interesting decision as Unai Emery reshapes his attacking options before the transfer window closes.
Leon Bailey Aston Villa exit suddenly opens up
Hull have pursued Bailey for several weeks, but confirmation that several clubs are now negotiating changes the picture.
Villa had previously been dealing primarily with Hull over the 28-year-old, with ReadAstonVilla reporting that the newly promoted side had made progress towards a deal.
Those talks did not produce an agreement.
One of the major obstacles has been the structure of the transfer. Villa want to secure a permanent departure, while Hull had previously explored a loan.
Villa’s asking price was reported to be between £12million and £20m, giving interested clubs another significant detail to negotiate.
Butler’s latest comments suggest Bailey is no longer relying on one route out of Villa Park.
That could work in Villa’s favour.
Multiple interested clubs potentially give the club greater leverage over the fee and structure of any deal rather than leaving them dependent on Hull finding acceptable terms.
Bailey transfer could unlock another Aston Villa signing
Bailey’s future also matters because Villa’s attacking business may not end with his departure.
ReadAstonVilla reported that Emery wants another winger after Alejandro Garnacho’s arrival, but further recruitment was expected to depend on players leaving first.
Bailey was identified as one of the key exits capable of creating both squad and financial room.
That adds another consequence to the latest negotiations.
Villa do not simply need to decide where Bailey plays next. Completing his departure could allow Emery’s recruitment team to accelerate plans elsewhere before the window shuts.
Hull remain firmly involved.
But Bailey’s agent has now confirmed there are other clubs at the table too.
After weeks of slow progress, his Aston Villa exit suddenly has more than one route forward.
