Aston Villa give green light to £4m Kosta Nedeljkovic exit

Aston Villa have given Kosta Nedeljkovic permission to complete a move to Rangers, with the right-back set to leave on a season-long loan carrying a £4million obligation to buy.

The 20-year-old returned to Villa this summer following his spell with RB Leipzig and featured heavily during Unai Emery’s pre-season preparations.

However, Villa’s search for another right-back has cast fresh doubt over his place in the squad.

Alex Crook reports that Nedeljkovic is now set to join Rangers and has permission to formalise the transfer.

The proposed agreement would initially see Nedeljkovic move to Ibrox on loan before Rangers become obliged to purchase him for £4m. Reports in Scotland suggest that obligation is linked to him reaching a specified number of appearances.

It represents a significant change in direction after the Serbian was given opportunities to impress Emery throughout pre-season.

Read Aston Villa highlighted only three days ago that Nedeljkovic faced a major audition for his future, with Villa already exploring the market for competition at right-back.

That search has since intensified.

Villa made a loan offer for West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, although the Hammers rejected the proposal. Nedeljkovic’s impending departure would now create additional room in Emery’s squad for another senior right-back. talkSPORT reports Villa’s pursuit of Wan-Bissaka has reached an advanced stage.

Nedeljkovic has made only 10 competitive appearances for Villa since joining from Red Star Belgrade in 2024, spending much of the intervening period away on loan.

His latest move now appears close to completion, with Villa seemingly prepared to move in another direction at right-back.
