Aston Villa have made an enquiry over Christopher Nkunku as Unai Emery looks at further attacking additions before the transfer window closes.
Villa are understood to have contacted the AC Milan forward’s representatives over a potential Premier League return.
Newcastle United are also interested, creating competition for the former Chelsea attacker.
Italian journalist Daniele Longo reports that both clubs have made enquiries for Nkunku, while Milan are seeking around €35million, approximately £30m, for the 28-year-old.
Aston Villa enter Christopher Nkunku race
Nkunku only moved to Milan from Chelsea last summer, but his future at San Siro is already uncertain.
Villa’s interest is particularly intriguing following the latest developments surrounding Ollie Watkins.
Villa have since made it clear that they want Watkins to remain part of Emery’s plans.
Nkunku would not necessarily have to arrive as a direct replacement for the England international.
The Frenchman can operate through the middle, behind a striker or from a wider attacking position. That versatility could provide Emery with another option across several roles.
According to reporting attributed to Daniele Longo, Villa and Newcastle have both spoken to Nkunku’s representatives.
Milan’s €35m asking price will now be one of the major factors in deciding whether Villa take their initial enquiry any further.
No formal Villa offer has been reported yet.
However, their contact over Nkunku adds another attacking name to watch as Emery’s squad reshaping enters its final weeks.
