Ezri Konsa completes £55m Arsenal move after seven years at Aston Villa

Ezri Konsa has completed his move from Aston Villa to Arsenal in a deal worth up to £55million, bringing his seven-year stay at Villa Park to an end.

The England international underwent his medical with Arsenal on Thursday after the clubs reached an agreement earlier this week.

David Ornstein reports that Arsenal will pay Villa £51million plus another £4million in potential add-ons, with Konsa putting pen to paper on a four-year contract containing an option for a further season.

The 28-year-old joined Villa from Brentford in 2019 and leaves after making 286 appearances for the club.

Ezri Konsa completes Arsenal transfer from Aston Villa

Konsa’s departure completes a transfer that accelerated rapidly this week.

Read Aston Villa reported on Wednesday that Villa and Arsenal had agreed a deal after the Premier League champions significantly improved on earlier proposals.

Konsa subsequently completed his medical before signing his Arsenal contract.

His exit leaves Unai Emery with a major defensive position to address before the transfer window closes.

Villa have already moved into the centre-back market.

An £18million plus add-ons offer for Southampton captain Taylor Harwood-Bellis was rejected on Thursday, with the Saints understood to value the England international closer to £30million.

Fikayo Tomori and Tosin Adarabioyo are also on Villa’s replacement shortlist, giving Emery several potential routes as he reshapes his defensive options.

Konsa’s departure adds to an extraordinary summer of change at Villa Park following the exits of Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne.

His next Premier League appearance could also come against Villa.

Arsenal visit Villa Park on 29 August, potentially handing Konsa an immediate reunion with the club he represented for seven seasons.

For Villa, attention now shifts firmly towards replacing one of Emery’s most dependable defenders before the window shuts.
