Nicolas Jackson has completed his Aston Villa medical as the Chelsea striker closes in on a £65million move to Villa Park. Personal terms have been agreed and the remaining paperwork is now being prepared ahead of the transfer’s completion.
Villa reached a club-to-club agreement with Chelsea on Thursday after moving quickly to replace Ollie Watkins, whose own transfer to Al-Hilal is nearing completion.
Fabrizio Romano has now provided the next significant update, reporting that Jackson completed his medical on Friday and everything on the player’s side has been completed.
The final paperwork is expected to be signed within the next 24 hours before Jackson formally becomes an Aston Villa player.
It represents clear progression from the £65m agreement ReadAstonVilla reported on Thursday.
Nicolas Jackson moves closer to Aston Villa signing
Sky Sports previously confirmed that Villa had agreed a deal worth up to £65m to sign Jackson from Chelsea.
The move comes alongside Villa accepting a £50m offer from Al-Hilal for Watkins, allowing Unai Emery to reshape his attack before the transfer window closes.
Jackson already knows Emery from their time together at Villarreal.
The Senegal international developed under the Villa manager in Spain before completing a move to Chelsea in 2023.
Sky Sports noted that Jackson has previously credited Emery with playing a major role in his development.
Villa’s decision to move for the 25-year-old therefore represents more than simply replacing Watkins with another striker.
We looked at the wider implications in our analysis of Villa’s £65m attacking reset following the Watkins decision.
Jackson spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, but the Bundesliga club’s obligation to buy was not activated because he failed to reach the required appearance threshold.
Aston Villa now await final Jackson paperwork
The remaining steps appear increasingly straightforward.
Romano reports that personal terms are agreed verbally, the medical has been completed and Jackson is expected to sign the final portion of his paperwork by Saturday morning.
That means an official Aston Villa announcement could now follow quickly.
Jackson’s arrival would continue an extraordinary summer overhaul at Villa Park, with Villa replacing several established first-team players while attempting to remain competitive domestically and in the Champions League.
Watkins is also expected to arrive in Riyadh on Friday ahead of completing his own move to Al-Hilal.
Once the final documents are signed, Jackson will be in position to become the latest major addition to Emery’s rebuilt squad.
