Aston Villa send Ben Broggio to Stevenage on season-long loan

Aston Villa youngster Ben Broggio has joined Stevenage on a season-long loan as the 19-year-old continues his development with regular senior football.

The League One club have completed a deal for Broggio after beating competition from elsewhere in the EFL for his signature.

BBC Sport reports that Broggio has signed for Stevenage for the entirety of the 2026/27 campaign, making him their seventh signing of the summer.

The move follows an encouraging spell in Scotland last season and gives another highly-rated Villa academy player the chance to accumulate senior minutes.

Ben Broggio earns another Aston Villa loan

Broggio spent part of last season with Falkirk and made an immediate impact after moving north.

The winger scored three times in eight Scottish Premiership appearances, while ReadAstonVilla previously highlighted Broggio’s impressive form during his Falkirk loan.

That spell helped demonstrate his ability to cope with senior football after progressing through Villa’s academy.

Broggio was also involved during Unai Emery‘s pre-season preparations this summer.

He featured against Porto after replacing Leon Bailey during the first half, with our match report noting the academy winger’s involvement in Villa’s 2-1 friendly defeat.

Regular Premier League opportunities would nevertheless have been difficult to secure following Villa’s extensive summer recruitment.

A fresh loan therefore offers Broggio the chance to continue playing consistently rather than remaining on the fringes of Emery’s senior squad.

Stevenage win race for Broggio

Stevenage had faced competition for the teenager.

Football Insider reported before confirmation that several League One and Championship clubs were interested, but Stevenage moved ahead of their rivals and reached agreements with both Villa and the player.

Broggio can operate from either flank and has represented England at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-18 level.

Villa handed him a new long-term contract last year, underlining the club’s belief in his potential.

His task now is to build on the progress made at Falkirk and establish himself as a regular in League One.

For Villa, another productive senior loan could move Broggio closer to challenging for opportunities under Emery in the future.
